Groin Injury Forces Brian Roberts to DL

Groin Injury Forces Brian Roberts to DL

Jul 4, 2012

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts has been placed on the 15-day DL with a groin injury. Roberts, who missed 13 months of action while recovering from multiple concussions, is batting just .182 with five runs batted in and no-home runs in 17 games this season.

Roberts became somewhat of a fantasy darling in June as owners anticipated the 12 year veteran to return to his former All-Star self. Unfortuneatly, time has appeared to have caught up with the former first round pick in the 1999 amateur draft.

At 34 years old, Roberts has lost his speed burst that allowed him to steal 120 bases between 2007 and 2009. In addition he failed to log a single extra base hit in 74 plate appearances for Buck Showalter and the Orioles. Even if he does return to action this season, his fantasy value is all but gone and he is droppable in all formats.
