Atlanta Braves All-Star second baseman, Dan Uggla was diminished to bench duty prior to Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez delivered the bad news to Uggla and reportedly told him that his playing time will be limited all September long.
Uggla is having a poor season at the plate batting, .208/.340/.373 with 17 homers and 64 RBI. He started out solid in April and May batting .271 and .265 respectively, but his average dropped significantly during the summer months.
Uggla’s slump is too much of a risk for the Braves, who find themselves atop the standings in a heated NL Wild Card race. They surely want to avoid another September collapse and have made it clear they want productive bats in the lineup with this recent move.
Martin Prado (.298/.356/.441) will fill in at second base for the Braves and could be a viable option to replace Uggla on your fantasy team.
