Alex Avila Leaves With Head Injury

Alex Avila Leaves With Head Injury

Jun 1, 2012

Alex Avila left Thursday Night’s game against the Red Sox early after taking a foul ball off his mask. Avila was noticeably shaken, and he suffered a sizable cut on his nose that gushed blood down his face.

The severity of the injury is not known at this time, however, it is possible that Avila may be the latest player to utilize the new seven-day DL for concussion related injuries.

Gerald Laird replaced Avila in the third inning and will likely be the starting catcher should Avila miss any time. From a fantasy perspective, Laird is a .243 career hitter with very little pop, and has no fantasy value in anything other than deep AL only leagues.
